Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are my photos and journal entries uploaded to the internet?

No. HairTrack operates 100% on your device. Your photos, daily ratings, and routine logs are stored strictly inside your phone’s local sandboxed database and are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party cloud service.

Q: Does HairTrack diagnose hair loss conditions or prescribe medicine?

No. HairTrack is strictly a personal self-care and observational tracking application. It does NOT diagnose conditions, classify alopecia severity, or recommend medical drugs or dosages. If you notice rapid shedding, patchy circular hair loss, or scalp pain, please consult a board-certified dermatologist or doctor.

Q: How do I take consistent progress photos?

For reliable before-and-after observations, follow the 4 Golden Rules:

  1. Use identical, soft indirect lighting (avoid direct phone flash or bright overhead spots).
  2. Ensure your hair is completely dry and styled in your habitual parting.
  3. Maintain a fixed distance (full arm’s length or a consistent spot in front of a mirror).
  4. Take photos from the 4 standard angles: Front, Top (Vertex), Left Side, and Right Side.

Q: Why can't I take screenshots inside the app?

HairTrack enforces Android’s FLAG_SECURE privacy guard. This protects your sensitive scalp photographs from unauthorized screenshot apps and prevents the Android Recent Apps multitasking task switcher from caching visible previews of your photos.

Q: What happens to my reminders if I cross time zones?

HairTrack uses timezone-aware local notification scheduling. When your device updates to a new local time zone, your scheduled reminders automatically adapt to fire at your chosen local hour.

Q: How do I completely erase my data?

Because all records are stored on your device, clearing app storage via Android Settings (Settings → Apps → HairTrack → Storage → Clear Data) or uninstalling the app permanently and irreversibly erases all data immediately. See our Data Deletion Policy for details.
